How the Random Name Picker works

Whether you're choosing a raffle winner, picking who presents first, or selecting a handful of volunteers from a larger group, this tool gives every name on your list an exactly equal chance of selection — the same underlying shuffle-based selection used across Xrandom's other list tools, just presented for the specific job of picking people.

By default, picks are made without repeats, so choosing 3 winners from a list of 10 names guarantees 3 different people; switch to 'repeats allowed' if you want each pick to be fully independent, such as randomly assigning who buys coffee each day regardless of who bought it yesterday.

How to use it

1
Paste your namesOne name per line — participants, team members, raffle entrants, anyone in the pool.
2
Choose how many to pickPick a single winner, or select a whole subgroup at once.
3
PickXrandom selects fairly, with no repeats by default so the same person isn't picked twice in one draw.

Frequently asked questions

Can the same person be picked more than once?

Not by default — with 'No repeats' selected, everyone picked is unique. Switch to 'Repeats allowed' if you want independent draws instead.

Is this fair for a real giveaway?

Yes, the selection is drawn with the same unbiased shuffle used throughout Xrandom, giving every entrant an equal chance.

Can I paste names with commas instead of new lines?

Currently each name should be on its own line; you can quickly convert comma-separated names to lines in any text editor using find-and-replace.
